During 2006 a challenge was set to all key stage 2. The challenge was to build an item of playground equipment out of K'NEX construction materials. So for one afternoon in May 2006 that's what we did, below are the photos.
The winners of this school tournament then faced the winners from the other schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire at Snaith Secondary School.
The winners of the school tournament were Robert Stothert and George Smithson. They went to Snaith Secondary School where they had to build a theme park ride out of K'NEX. George and Robert won that competition too. Next they had to go to Kilham Island Museum in Sheffield to take part in the Yorkshire final. here they had to build a vehicle which would move a model tree. They used a pulley system on their model.
They won the Yorkshire final and the next step was the National Final! This was held at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
They travelled by train to London on 4th September 2006, with Mrs Leach. Accommodation was provided at Queen Mary's College, University of London. George and Robert had to build a cantilever bridge, rather like Tower Bridge. They didn't win but Mrs Leach said their model was excellent. That evening a grand dinner was eaten in The Painted Hall and the awards ceremony took place. The whole school is very proud of George and Robert.
